The Vincent L. Hawkinson Foundation was founded in 1988 to encourage and inspire the next generation of peace and justice leaders. Effective March 28, 2017, the Vincent L. Hawkinson Foundation for Peace and Justice will be the Hawkinson Fund at Grace University Lutheran Church.
The Hawkinson Fund defines peace and justice broadly. Past scholarship recipients have worked on international healthcare, LGBT equality, racial justice, domestic violence, human rights, and health disparities in low-income communities.
We recognize and support individuals, young and old, with a passion for peace and justice. We both honor individuals who have made a lifetime commitment to peace and justice and support students who are in the early years of their commitment to peace and justice. We are committed to being an organization that embraces the variety of methods that one can take to work towards peace and justice in our world. We support individuals of all faiths and backgrounds.
We take inspiration from the Rev. Vincent Hawkinson’s commitment to stand up and speak against oppression and injustices in all forms.
The purpose of the Hawkinson Fund for Peace and Justice is to perpetuate the spirit of Vincent L. Hawkinson by
- providing grants and scholarships to persons or groups committed to peace and justice,
- making nonmonetary awards to individuals or groups committed to peace and justice,
- engaging in other projects that inspire bold action for justice, and
publicizing these projects and the stories of those receiving grants, scholarship and awards and thereby inspiring others to pursue peace and justice.
We don’t have an endowment. Almost all of our funding comes from individuals like you. Will you join us in supporting the next generation of peace and justice leaders? Donate today.
